Amy Newman formerly known as Amy Brew happens to be a sensational musician, who hails from the Western Region, Essikado and was born to Mr. Kwesi Brew and Miss Dinah Appiah in 1960. The 50 year old gospel music diva started singing in her youthful days at school and church.
Miss Amy Brew was married to Rev. Kwesi Newman and had 8 children together, which was involved with 4 girls and 4 boys. One Rev. Charles Sam became her inspirer and producer who helped her to come out with her debut albums.
Her songs were made as a result of her life experiences. She got married to an infidelity husband who had several concubines aside her as a wife and in her marital home, she fought several girlfriends of her husband and was mostly not happy until she made the church her home which brought a lot of changes into her life.
In the year 2000, MUSIGA organized a programme which was headed by Hackman Promotions and Amy Newman was selected as the first Western Regional Gospel Queen. This was because of her Evangelism attitude through her music and as a first female musician.
Amy Newman is a past student of Takoradi Polytechnic with a catering background as her main profession. As a Fanti woman, she enjoys being in the kitchen with her 'nkyekyewe', meaning fries.
She explained in her current interview that, it was difficult for her when her marriage to her children father almost destroyed her life. She said even in her career, there were moments she almost died because she was occupied with liars all around her, but by the grace of God she overcame them and her life got back to normal again.
All her songs were written by herself and most of them were based on her life experience, especially that of her marriage to her husband Rev. Kwesi Newman which almost caused her death due to his infidelity.
Amy Newman's 8 children are all beautifully grown now and she managed to bring them all up in the fear of God. Today, she has a ministry known as Amy Newman Ministries.
This year, Amy Newman and her changed husband celebrated their 40 years anniversary of marriage in commemoration of thanks giving to God for their journey in their marriage. The remarkable singer told the world about her experience in life and expectations as the first gospel musician in the Western region of Ghana and urged the youth to be very focused and direct their lives to God. She made this declaration in a church at the Western region where she was exchanging a second marriage vows with her husband. She is now happily married to her husband and all her 8 children are all alive. She said she has not regretted anything in life and if life should resume again, she will still repeat herself because she is the happiest woman ever lived.
